1. Walmart
Walmart Inc. is the world’s biggest hypermarket chain. An American multinational retail corporation that operates a chain of hypermarkets, discount department stores, and grocery stores in the United States, headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas.
2. Target
Target Corporation is an American big box department store chain headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is the seventh largest retailer in the United States and a component of the S&P 500 Index. Target was established as the discount division of Dayton’s department store in Minneapolis in 1962.
3. Kaufland
Kaufland is a German hypermarket chain, part of the Schwarz Gruppe which also owns Lidl. The hypermarket directly translates to English as ‘buy-land’. It opened its first store in 1984 in Neckarsulm and quickly expanded to become a major chain in what was formerly East Germany.
4. Carrefour
Carrefour is a French multinational retail and wholesaling corporation headquartered in Massy, France. The eighth-largest hypermarket chain in the world by revenue, it operates a chain of hypermarkets, groceries stores, and convenience stores, which as of January 2021, comprises its 12,225 stores in over 30 countries.
5. Costco

E.Leclerc is a French cooperative society and hypermarket chain, headquartered in Ivry-sur-Seine. E.Leclerc was established on 1 January 1948 by Édouard Leclerc in Brittany. E.Leclerc currently has more than 720 locations in France and 85 stores outside of the country.
7. Sam’s Club
Sam’s West, Inc. is an American chain of membership-only retail warehouse clubs owned and operated by Walmart Inc., founded in 1983 and named after Walmart founder Sam Walton as Sam’s Wholesale Club.
8. Metro
Metro opened the first store in 1971 in the Copenhagen suburb of Glostrup. Since then stores have been opened in Aarhus, Kolding, Sydhavnen in Copenhagen, and Aalborg in chronological order. Denmark was one of the first countries to begin operating delivery services out of the stores and had its own truck fleet that covered all of Denmark.
9. RT-Mart
RT-MART International Ltd., trading as RT-Mart, is a hypermarket chain in Taiwan. Its headquarters is in Neihu District, Taipei. The company opened its 23rd store in 2004. RT-Mart and Auchan created a joint venture, Sun Art Retail Group Ltd.
10. Auchan
Auchan is a French multinational hypermarket chain headquartered in Croix, France. It was founded in 1961 by Gérard Mulliez and is owned by the Mulliez family, who has a 95% stake in the company. With 354,851 employees, of which 261,000 have a 5% stake in the company, it is the 35th largest employer in the world.
